Chemsan is a mixture of phosphoric acid, benzenesulfonic acid and isopropanol, and works great for cleaning brewing equipment before use for fermentation, bottling, bottling and the like.

Instructions for use:

Mixing ratio: Mix 10ml Chemsan in 5 litres of water for a 0.2% dilution. Higher concentrations will require thorough rinsing. All surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned and rinsed prior to using Chemsan. Chemsan should have a minimum contact time of 2 minutes. The chemical should maintain a pH of 3.5 or lower to ensure effective cleaning. Chemsan may become cloudy when diluted with hard water, but will remain effective as long as the pH is 3.5 or less.

Clean all dirty surfaces with a suitable cleaner such as Chemclean, then rinse well before using Chemsan. Apply the fully mixed Chemsan to surfaces using a cloth, mop, brush, sponge, spray or by immersion. Ensure surfaces remain wet for at least two minutes, then allow to air dry. No rinsing is necessary after using Chemsan, unless a higher concentration has been used. Due to the acidic nature of the product, it is not recommended on soft metals.

DO NOT MIX CHEMSAN WITH CHLORINED CLEANERS AS CHLORINE GAS WILL BE EMITTED.

In case of eye contact: Hold eyes open and rinse gently with water for 15-20 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present, after the first five minutes. Then continue rinsing. Seek immediate medical attention.
If swallowed: Seek immediate medical attention. Have the person drink a glass of water if he/she is able to swallow. Do not induce vomiting unless told to do so by a Poison Control Center physician. Do not give anything to an unconscious person.
In case of contact with skin or clothing: Remove contaminated clothing. Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Seek medical attention if necessary.
If inhaled: Move person to fresh air. If not breathing, call an ambulance, then give artificial respiration, preferably mouth-to-mouth if possible. Seek immediate medical attention/advice.

  No, it is perfectly fine. Chemsan will become cloudy if it has been mixed with hard water. This is because the calcium and magnesium carbonates in the water react with Chemsan and produce a cloudy precipitate. As long as the pH of the solution is 3.5 or less, it will still be effective.
• Chemsan foams a lot, is this correct?
  Yes, it is! Chemsan foams, which helps it adhere to and clean surfaces.
• Do I have to rinse Chemsan off?
  No, when Chemsan is properly mixed, it does not need to be rinsed off after use.
• But if I don't rinse, won't Chemsan affect the taste of beer/wine?
  No, Chemsan is diluted to 0.2%, so once a container has been drained, any remaining film will be negligible and will not affect or impart flavor to the product placed in the container.
• How long will a surface stay clean / How long will the inside of the bottles stay clean?
  It is always best to clean just before use, but provided the bottles do not come into contact with any contaminants, they will remain clean for a few hours. We cannot be more specific as it will depend on the environment and airborne contaminants.
• What is the best temperature for Chemsan?
  Chemsan is typically used at room temperature, but can be used from room temperature up to 88ºC. Higher temperatures may reduce the required contact/soak time.
